circular thinking
Another interesting exhibition at ParisCONCRET…Raisonnement circulaire (Circular Reasoning). It was a collaborative by several artists, all based on that simple, yet spiritual form, the circle. It was a pleasure to meet Dan Hill of Parsons NY, who curated the expo. My favorite piece in the show was by Dutch artist, Iemke van Dijk. She drew an old mirror on the wall which created a nice trompe l’œil effect. (similar to this one but round) We had a nice chat and saw pix of her other works….loved the scan of washing powder…think you should explore that more.
I particularly liked a quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson on the press release…
“The eye is the first circle; the horizon which it forms is the second; and throughout nature this primary figure is repeated without end. It is the highest emblem in the cipher of the world. …Our life is an apprenticeship to the truth, that around every circle another can be drawn; that there is no end in nature, but every end is a beginning; that there is another dawn risen on mid-noon, and under every deep a lower deep opens.” – RWE
…..love that last phrase….”under every deep a lower deep opens.”…sounds like what happens in meditation…there is a circular pattern to it…reinforces my desire to explore the unknown depths of my own soul.
