Travels

Hey, I’m back! I took a little vacation from my blog and took a little vacation…well several little vacations, actually, to some other places in Europe. It has been a good summer. I spent more money on travel than I should have, but in the end, I’m glad I did. Isn’t it good to get out of the rut, to see new things, to eat different foods, to even get yourself lost in a new city? I think so…..

So where did my travels take me this summer…

  • Greece, mainly Athens and Santorini BEST THING?  breakfast on the edge of a volcano – (I’ve already wrote about my Santorini experience here)
  • Le Tour de France (not the bike race) Our youngest daughter came over for a visit and we went on a 12-day camping trip through the south of France, seeing things like: 4 chateaux in the Loire valley; the Atlantic coast from the Île de Ré near La Rochelle; the prehistoric cave paintings of Lascaux 2; the walled city of Carcassone; the Mediterranean beaches near Monpellier; La Camargue; Provence: Nîmes, Arles, Aix, Baux, Uzès, Pont de Garde; swimming under a natural rock bridge over the Ardèche river at Pont d’Arc; and Flavigny-sur-Ozerain where the film, Chocolat was filmed.  BEST THING? impossible to choose …..maybe kitchen rooms of Chateau Chenonceau
  • As if that was not enough, Sanan and I found a last-minute incredibly-priced Mediterranean cruise which took us to: Corsica, Naples, Sicily, Malta and Mallorca. We relaxed around the pool, ate too much and had lots of time to ourselves. BEST THING? Pizza for 1€ in Naples, the place where they invented it.
  • Then, I had a quick trip up to Amsterdam for a meeting and to reconnect with some friends, with whom I’m planning some interesting collaborative projects. BEST THING? bike ride with Willemijn along the dyke of a cute Dutch village.
