You Can Exist Without Creating BUT…

Sure, you can exist without creating. Millions do. But I’ve learned that creating is what keeps you from JUST existing.

A few years ago, life started getting very heavy. My wife’s illness demanded everything — my time, my energy, my heart. I could feel it pressing down on me. I knew if I let it, it would crush something essential inside me.

So I made a decision. My creativity would be the one place I absolutely refused to surrender. So it was stolen moments. Small windows. A paragraph here. A melody there. That’s how my KidLit novel THE PIZZA KIDS got written. That’s where some of my newest music came from. I didn’t create to be productive. I created to stay alive inside.

It’s interesting — I took this photo in Paris long before life taught me what it actually meant.
