This weekend two bits of info on Bobby McFerrin crossed my computer screen and sent some needed inspiration my way…..I thought I would share them with you.
First of all: Sanan told me about an interview with BMcF on the spiritual side of his life and music, by Krista Tippett of NPR’s ON BEING (www.onbeing.org)
Secondly: On perusing the blog of my college buddy, Charles Kinnaird.…I saw that his most popular post was a video of Bobby singing his special version of Psalm 23. If you need a dose of PEACE in your soul…..watch this video a few times. BUT…. it uses feminine pronouns for God. Personally I find if quite refreshing, to feel the presence of God as a comforting mother. What do you think?
The Lord is my Shepard, I have all I need,
She makes me lie down in green meadows,
Beside the still waters, She will lead.
She restores my soul, She rights my wrongs,
She leads me in a path of good things,
And fills my heart with songs.
Even though I walk, through a dark & dreary land,
There is nothing that can shake me,
She has said She won’t forsake me,
I’m in her hand.
She sets a table before me, in the presence of my foes,
She anoints my head with oil,
And my cup overflows.
Surely, surely goodness & kindness will follow me,
All the days of my life,
And I will live in her house,
Forever, forever & ever.
Glory be to our Mother, & Daughter,
And to the Holy of Holies,
As it was in the beginning, is now & ever shall be,
World, without end. Amen.
Peace be with us all.
PS: The interview is amazing and inspiring and I feel like I can just exist as I am, as I want to be. What a great human Bobby is.
I totally agree Laura…what a great human he is…..and what an incredible musician! check out more of his stuff on youtube and watch how he improvs with the audience.
David, thank you for sharing this fascinating and inspiring interview with Bobby McFerrin – and thanks for the track back to my blog!
